Belfair Golf Club (West (Left #6))

Overview: Belfair's West Course is a private Tom Fazio and Tom Marzolf layout in Bluffton, South Carolina. The Lowcountry parkland routing is framed by live oaks, pines, marshland and water, with broad landing areas giving way to more exacting approaches. The championship markers extend to 7,111 yards at par 72, while the surrounding tee system gives the course a wider range of playable distances. Native vegetation and generous setbacks help the holes retain a sense of space despite the residential setting. Its interest comes from the contrast between tranquil scenery and the precise lines required into the greens.

History: The West Course opened for play in 1996 as the first of Belfair's two 18-hole courses. Tom Fazio's original routing was later renovated under the direction of Fazio Design, with the updated course reopening in 2022 after a five-month project. That work refreshed the playing surfaces, bunkering and definition of the holes while preserving the essential character of the original course. The result is a modern presentation of a mid-1990s design, still grounded in the Lowcountry landscape that shaped the community.

Did You Know? Belfair's two courses arrived in different chapters: West opened in 1996, while the East Course followed three years later. That makes the paired courses a useful snapshot of how Fazio's design language was adapted to two related but distinct pieces of Bluffton ground.
