Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club (Black Bear/Grizzly)

Overview: The Black Bear and Grizzly combination at Bear Trap Dunes is one of three 18-hole pairings available across a 27-hole Rick Jacobson facility in Ocean View, Delaware. The current combination plays to par 72 and roughly 6,900 yards, moving through coastal terrain with sandy dunes, native wetland grasses, winding bentgrass fairways, grassy hollows and water hazards. Oversized greens and multiple tee positions give the routing flexibility, while the links-style ground and broad visual spaces create a distinct Eastern Shore character. The course is challenging through its changing lines and surfaces rather than through a single narrow corridor.

History: Bear Trap Dunes opened in 1999 with the Grizzly and Kodiak nines, and the Black Bear nine followed in 2001. Rick Jacobson designed all three nines, allowing the facility to offer three different 18-hole combinations. The property was developed on coastal ground near Bethany Beach, and the dunes, wetland grasses and ponds remain central to the course's identity. The present Black Bear/Grizzly record is therefore a combination routing within a larger 27-hole design, not a standalone 18-hole course with a separate opening date.

Did You Know? Bear Trap Dunes can create three different 18-hole combinations from its Grizzly, Kodiak and Black Bear nines. The Black Bear nine is the later addition, joining the original 1999 pair in 2001 to complete the 27-hole facility.
