Bayside Resort Golf Club

Overview: Bayside Resort Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Selbyville, Delaware, shaped around Assawoman Bay, salt marshes, meadows, pine forest and coastal woodland. The par-72 layout reaches 7,545 yards from the Signature tees, yet five tee positions allow the same routing to be played at a much broader range of lengths. The course uses water edges, marsh corridors, broad landing areas and carefully positioned hazards to create a coastal round that changes visually from hole to hole. Its resort-community setting is part of the design story, because the golf course was planned as the organizing landscape for the wider Bayside development.

History: Bayside officially opened on August 8, 2005 as Delaware's first Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Nicklaus worked with the natural composition of the site, using salt marshes, meadows and woodlands rather than flattening the property into a conventional inland layout. The course became the centerpiece of an 867-acre resort community developed by the Carl M. Freeman Companies. From the beginning, the design brief combined a strong coastal setting with enough tee variety to make a 7,545-yard championship course playable for a wider audience.
