Overview: Bayonet Golf Course occupies former military ground at Seaside, close to the Monterey Bay coast. Its public routing is shaped by sandy soil, mature trees, elevation changes and the demanding stretch known as Combat Corner. The course offers a stern strategic test, with fairway position and the ability to manage uneven ground often more important than maximum length.
History: General Robert B. McClure built Bayonet in 1954 for Fort Ord, and the course retained the military character of its original setting. The City of Seaside acquired the property in 1997, and Gene Bates led a later renovation that modernized the course while preserving its identity. The official facility now operates Bayonet and Black Horse together.
Did You Know? Combat Corner refers to a demanding three-hole section that reflects the course's Fort Ord history. The course is at 1 McClure Way, and the name itself honors General McClure rather than a private developer or resort brand.
