Overview: Battle Creek Country Club is a private Willie Park Jr. course on the southeast shore of Goguac Lake in Michigan. The routing uses gently rolling parkland, lake views and a classic perimeter-and-interior arrangement. Its character comes from the relationship between the two nines, the shaped green approaches and the need to place drives accurately on a course that predates modern target golf.
History: The club was founded at the present site in 1919 after earlier nine-hole courses in Battle Creek. Park’s design was built in stages: construction reached nine holes in 1920 and the full layout in 1922. The original course measured 6,574 yards, while later tee arrangements have extended the playable length.
Did You Know? Park arranged the front nine clockwise around the perimeter and the back nine counter-clockwise inside it. That unusual relationship between the two loops remains one of the clearest architectural signatures of Battle Creek’s design.
