Batalha Golf Club (A+B)

Overview: Batalha Golf Club is a 27-hole facility on the northern side of São Miguel in the Azores, set on volcanic ground between the island's hills and the Atlantic. The ranked A+B combination forms an 18-hole par-72 round with broad fairways, large undulating greens and curving bunkers that follow the natural terrain. History: Cameron Powell designed the Batalha project in 1986 as a 27-hole golf facility. The Azores tourism authority records that the installations opened to the public in 1993. The A+B combination became the principal 18-hole championship routing within the three nines, while the wider facility retained the option of different loop combinations. Batalha's history is therefore tied to both the early development of golf tourism on São Miguel and the decision to build a full 27 holes rather than a single course. Its northern-coast position, near Ponta Delgada but outside the city, keeps the golf closely connected to the volcanic landscape.
