Barnbougle Lost Farm

Overview: Barnbougle Lost Farm follows Tasmania’s northeast coast and the sand dunes beside the Forester River estuary. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw used the site’s broad sandy land to create a links routing with wide fairways, steep dune faces, strategic bunkering and undulating greens. The course can invite a ground-game approach from the tee, yet the changing scale of the dunes means that the most comfortable-looking line is not always the safest way to the next putting surface.

History: Lost Farm officially opened on 10 December 2010 as the second course at Barnbougle, following the adjacent Dunes course, established four years earlier. Coore and Crenshaw designed the new layout around the existing coastal topography, allowing it to differ from the Dunes despite the short distance between them. The result was a 20-hole course whose routing moves between the shoreline and inland dunes while keeping the design deliberately spare and strategic.

Did You Know? Lost Farm’s 20 holes are all playable in a normal round, which gives the course a rare flexibility in routing. The two additional par-three “bye” holes are numbered 13a and 18a, so the facility can offer alternate combinations without pretending that every hole belongs to a conventional 18-hole loop.
