Overview: Banyan Golf Club offers private 18-hole golf in West Palm Beach, routed through dense tropical vegetation, cypress, water, and the unusual elevation left by former shell-mining pits. Joe Lee designed the course across the 200-acre property, shaping a sequence of separated holes rather than a conventional corridor of parallel fairways.
History: A group of local golfers formed the club after seeing nearby courses threatened by condominium development. The property was purchased in July 1972, the course opened in December 1973, and a clubhouse followed soon after. Kipp Schulties led a major 2018 renovation involving new turf, bunkers, water hazards, and USGA-specification greens.
Did You Know? Joe Lee used the abandoned shell pits to create rare elevation in otherwise flat South Florida. The club says the thirteenth tee once stood 36 feet above the surrounding ground, while more than 1,000 trees were transplanted during construction of nearby Interstate 95.
