Overview: The Cashen Course at Ballybunion is often described as "links golf on steroids," featuring some of the most dramatic and wild sand dunes in the world. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1984, the layout plays across massive ridges of sand that dwarf those found on the neighboring Old Course. Characterized by extreme elevation changes, blind shots, and deep hollows, the Cashen is a visually stunning and physically imposing test that demands extreme creativity and a high tolerance for the unpredictable bounces of true links terrain.
Did You Know? Robert Trent Jones Sr. was reportedly so captivated by the massive dunes of the Cashen site that he famously claimed it was the most spectacular piece of links land he had ever worked with. While it lives in the shadow of its world-famous neighbor, many purists consider the Cashen to be the more raw and untamed experience, offering a visceral encounter with the untamed beauty of the Kerry coast.
