Overview: The South Course is one of BallenIsles Country Club’s three private 18-hole layouts in Palm Beach Gardens. The original Joe Lee and Dick Wilson design is arranged as a strategic parkland course, with the club describing it as a layout where accuracy and course management matter. Rees Jones’s current version reopened in January 2020.
History: South began as a nine-hole course in 1964 and was expanded to 18 holes by Joe Lee in 1970. Rees Jones then led an eight-month, tee-to-green renovation that reopened the course in 2020, adding new bunkering, drainage, irrigation, concrete paths, and forward tee options.
Did You Know? The renovation added forward tees that allow the course to play at approximately 4,000 yards. That was not just a distance adjustment: the new tee positions also create different angles and shot options for players using the shorter route.
