Balaton Golf

Overview: Balaton Golf is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, between Balatonudvari and the Tihany Peninsula. Hans-Georg Erhardt routed the course through a Mediterranean-looking landscape of ponds, vineyards, pines and gently varied ground, with the lake forming a constant visual horizon. The course is listed at approximately 6,805 yards from the longest markers. Its proximity to the Balaton Uplands National Park and the preserved Örvényes mine gives the layout a stronger natural identity than a typical lakeside resort course.

History: The club opened in 2008 as the first 18-hole course directly associated with Lake Balaton and was originally known as Royal Balaton. From the start, its purpose was to combine tournament scale with a setting that could showcase the region's landscape. The course has since hosted national events and the European Young Masters, which returned to Royal Balaton in 2010, 2011 and 2012. That competition history helped establish the venue as one of Hungary's most important modern courses.

Did You Know? Several holes play around the old Örvényes mine, which is now managed as a nature preserve. The course also uses the view in a strategic way: open fairways, ponds and tree lines can make the preferred line less obvious than the wide panorama suggests. The result is a round in which the lake is always present, but rarely the only thing demanding attention.
