Baiting Hollow Golf Club

Overview: Baiting Hollow Golf Club, also known as Baiting Hollow Club, occupies the bluffs above Long Island Sound on the North Fork. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed a course that uses the site’s undulating ground, elevated tees and raised greens to create repeated changes in outlook. The exposed setting brings broad coastal views into the round, while the fairways and green complexes ask for controlled positioning rather than simple distance. From the back tees the course measures about 6,920 yards at par 71, giving the layout a strong championship profile without losing the visual character of its Long Island setting.

History: The course dates to the mid-1960s and has built a tournament record that includes U.S. Open qualifying, the Met Open and the Long Island PGA Championship. The club’s current course description notes a later restoration and re-routing carried out alongside construction of a new clubhouse. That work means the modern routing should be understood as a developed version of the original Jones property, not as an untouched historical snapshot. The course remains closely tied to the North Fork’s coastal landscape and to the private-club golf culture of Long Island.
