Back Creek Golf Club

Overview: Back Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole public links-style course in Middletown, Delaware, designed by Allen Liddicoat and David Horne. The current club details list par 71 and 6,957 yards from the Black tees. Open fairways, wetlands, rolling ground and contoured greens give the routing a spacious character, while the water and natural edges create strategic decisions without enclosing the course in dense housing. It is a course built around position and angle, with enough tee variety to make the same layout accessible across a broad range of players.

History: Back Creek opened in 1997 on farmland once associated with Joshua M. Clayton, Delaware's first governor. The $2.4 million project was the first public golf course built in New Castle County in 25 years, and the design team turned a lightly wooded agricultural site into a links-inspired course with generous fairways and shaped greens. In 2023 the club joined the Ron Jaworski Golf network, adding a new ownership chapter while retaining the original Liddicoat and Horne routing.

Did You Know? Back Creek's Seven Tap-Tavern takes its name from Ron Jaworski's football jersey number. The course itself also carries a piece of Delaware history, having been built on farmland once owned by Joshua M. Clayton, the state's first governor.
