Azata Golf

Overview: Azata Golf is an 18-hole par-71 course in Estepona, framed by the Sierra Bermeja mountains and the Mediterranean. The official course page gives a total length of 5,703 metres, approximately 6,237 yards, and credits Sterling & Martin. It is not an especially long layout, but the course builds difficulty through water, tiered fairways, undulating greens and changing angles. The setting also shifts during the round: the opening holes are more technical, while the later stretch opens toward the sea and gives the course a broader coastal outlook.

History: Azata opened in 2020 as one of the newer courses in the Estepona golf market. The Andalusian federation’s report on its first junior event describes the new 18-hole, par-71 course and confirms the timing. Its location between established Costa del Sol courses gives it a useful destination role, while the current club presents the layout as a course integrated into the natural landscape rather than a purely residential development loop.

Did You Know? The official hole guide identifies the fourth as a par three played over a river, and the sixteenth keeps a river beside the hole for its full length. The Estepona tourism office also notes six lakes and the Arroyo de Enmedio, which borders six fairways and creates wetland habitat for local and migratory species. That combination of water and wildlife is more than scenery: it changes the safe side of several greens and gives Azata its distinctive technical character.
