Ayodhya Links

Overview: At Ayodhya Links, 18 holes are spread across the former floodplain of Ayutthaya, with the scorecard set at par 72 and the black tees listed at 7,626 yards. The routing is defined by water, broad earth shaping, about 80 bunkers and unusually large, sharply contoured putting surfaces. Peter Thomson, Ross Perrett and Mike Lobb supplied the conceptual plan, while the finished course was completed with the involvement of founder and chairman Pitak Intrawityanunt. This is an inland Thai course with a links name, not a seaside links, and its challenge comes from angles, carries and green contours rather than coastal wind.

History: Ayodhya Links was established in 2007 as an exclusive private club in Wangnoi, Ayutthaya. The Thomson and Perrett concept was developed with Mike Lobb, then brought to completion by the founder and independent architects. A major flood in 2011 forced the course to be rebuilt. The renewed layout retained its original strategic ambition while improving the shaping, conditioning and variety of the holes, helping Ayodhya become one of the most distinctive modern courses in Thailand.

Did You Know? The name can suggest a traditional seaside links, but Ayodhya has neither a coastal setting nor a sand base beneath the fairways. Its identity is instead built around water on every hole, sculpted greens and a large collection of strategically placed bunkers. The official fact sheet lists 80 bunkers and the championship black-tee length as 7,626 yards, a combination that makes the approach to each green as important as the drive.
