Overview: Atlantic Beach is a links-style course at Melkbosstrand, north of Cape Town, where the Atlantic breeze and firm coastal turf shape the round. The layout looks toward Table Mountain, Robben Island and the long beaches of the West Coast, while indigenous vegetation gives the fairways a distinctly Cape character. On calm days the ball can be flown normally; when the wind rises, low running shots and careful club selection become the better tools.
History: The course was established as part of the Atlantic Beach golf estate and opened for play in June 2000. Mark Muller’s design was built with a stated commitment to preserving local fauna and flora, so the course was conceived as more than a housing development with fairways around it. The modern estate setting sits alongside an older landscape of dunes, strandveld and open ocean.
Did You Know? The 12th runs beside the beach and gives one of the clearest views of the sand and Atlantic horizon. It is a short hole on the card, but the wind can change the correct shot from a conventional iron to a low, chasing approach that uses the ground.
