Overview: Atchafalaya at Idlewild in Patterson, Louisiana gives public golfers an 18-hole course beside the Atchafalaya Basin. The von Hagge, Smelek and Baril team used dramatic elevation, basin views, native vegetation and water features to create a parkland course surrounded by nature.
History: The course opened in 2006 within Kemper Williams Park. Each hole is named for a cultural or natural feature of the Atchafalaya Basin, linking the golf course to the landscape around it.
Did You Know? Holes 9 and 18 share a “common green” overlooking the clubhouse, one of the course's most unusual design features.
