Ashburnham Golf Club

Overview: Ashburnham is an 18-hole links at Burry Port on the Carmarthenshire coast, with a traditional straight-out-and-back routing through dunes and firm seaside turf. The prevailing wind can make the outward holes a demanding start, while the return leg brings a different balance of direction and exposure. The course's shape, bunkering and natural ground place a premium on controlling the ball in changing coastal conditions.

History: Ashburnham takes its name from the fifth Earl of Ashburnham, who became the club's inaugural president in 1894. The course that players know today is principally the result of J. H. Taylor's 1910 design work on the fourteen-year-old course, followed by a further visit three years later to review the alterations. That Taylor foundation remains central to the layout.

Did You Know? A 1904 visit by Harry Vardon, alongside James Braid, is part of Ashburnham's recorded history, and the club says Vardon later singled it out as the course he liked best in Wales. The endorsement came from a player who knew the country's links at first hand.
