Asahikawa Kokusai Country Club

Overview: Asahikawa Kokusai Country Club is a woodland and hill course in Aibetsu, between Asahikawa and the Daisetsuzan area. The official club describes a course built on rolling land with wide Hokkaido-style fairways, trees dividing the holes and views towards the Daisetsuzan range and the Ishikari River. Current course data lists 18 holes, par 72 and 6,963 yards, with Kokichi Yasuda credited as designer. The combination of broad corridors and changing elevation gives the course a calm visual character while leaving plenty of room for strategic mistakes.

History: The club opened on 5 September 1965 and has retained a strong identity as a Yasuda design in the Asahikawa region. Its location in a wildlife protection area on Mount Horai means that the course story is inseparable from the forest around it. The current official site continues to present the club as a destination on the road between Asahikawa and Sounkyo, with a seasonal 2026 opening and active reservations, while preserving the original connection to Yasuda’s course architecture.

Did You Know? The course sits in a protected natural setting where bird calls and conifer forest are part of the experience. The official tourism description calls the Daisetsuzan range the Roof of Hokkaido, and the club’s fairways are separated by trees rather than artificial screens. That makes the views feel earned: the landscape appears in the gaps between holes, while the player still has to read wind and elevation to use it well.
