Overview: Designed by Donald Steel to complement its famous older sibling, PGA Aroeira No. 2 (formerly known as Aroeira Challenge) offers a distinct and modern test of golf just south of Lisbon. While the first course is defined by its pine forest, Aroeira No. 2 is characterized by its five large, interconnected lakes and expansive, undulating greens that demand high-level putting skill. The layout was designed to meet European Tour standards, featuring strategic water hazards and "Scottish-style" pot bunkers that require thoughtful navigation on every hole.
Did You Know? The course is often cited as the "Challenge" for a reason: several of its par-4s require accurate carries over water, and the final stretch is considered one of the most difficult closing sequences in the Lisbon area. Since its rebranding into the PGA Aroeira complex, it has become a central destination for competitive amateur tournaments in Portugal, known for its pristine year-round condition.
