Overview: Aquella Golf & Country Club occupies a sandy coastal site in Phang Nga, where the layout by Paul Reeves and Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design turns the Andaman shoreline into a genuine part of the golf experience. The official course information gives an 18-hole, par-72 routing of 7,008 yards, with two balanced nines and a playing surface built for the exposed, salt-air setting. Fairways, greens and the surrounding vegetation have a distinctly modern coastal character, while the scale of the property lets the course breathe. The result is a round shaped as much by wind, angles and the beach landscape as by the scorecard.
History: Aquella was developed on the former Thai Muang golf site, which had been closed for roughly nine years before the new project took shape. Pacific Coast Design records construction completing in 2021, with play beginning that July. That makes the present course a recent routing, even though the land had an earlier golf chapter. The new design was conceived as a full resort course rather than a simple restoration, using the open coastal ground and sand-based conditions to establish its own identity.
Did You Know? The official designer’s description singles out the par-three 11th, where the hole reaches the beach and gives the Andaman Sea a direct role in the view and the shot. It is a useful key to the course as a whole. Aquella is not merely near the coast, its routing repeatedly uses the openness, light and wind of that edge to make club selection and trajectory part of the character.
