Anthem Golf & Country Club (Persimmon Course)

Overview: Persimmon is the original 18-hole course at Anthem Golf & Country Club, set in the foothills of Daisy Mountain north of Phoenix. Greg Nash designed the par-72 course, which the current club profile lists at 7,221 yards. Compared with Ironwood, Persimmon is presented as the more traditional of Anthem’s two courses, using elevation changes, desert views and a broad range of hole shapes to create a steady championship round. The setting has enough natural scale to feel like a destination course, while the routing remains connected to the residential community around it.

History: Persimmon opened in 1999 and established Anthem’s golf identity before Ironwood was added in 2004. The club’s history treats the two courses as a paired Greg Nash design project, but their roles are different. Persimmon introduced the community’s first 18 holes and is defined by its varied elevations and traditional progression, while the later Ironwood course increased the total to 36 holes and supplied a more overtly high-risk layout. That chronology is why the Persimmon routing remains central to Anthem’s story.

Did You Know? A single 18,000-square-foot double green serves as the finishing green for both the ninth and 18th holes. It is one of the course’s most distinctive features and gives the two nines a shared visual signature.
