Annbriar Golf Course

Overview: Annbriar Golf Course is a public 18-hole Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry design in Waterloo, Illinois. The course is recorded at par 72 and 6,841 yards, with rolling southern Illinois ground, ponds, woods and broad fairway corridors shaping the round. Hurdzan and Fry give the course a modern championship scale, but the holes remain connected to the surrounding farm landscape rather than an artificial resort setting. Water becomes increasingly important as the routing develops, and the green complexes reward a thoughtful approach instead of a simple attack at every flag. The result is a course that can accommodate a wide range of players while still offering strong strategic detail.

History: Annbriar opened on May 28, 1993, after Russ Nobbe and the Nobbe family decided to continue with a golf-course project dedicated to Ann Nobbe. Hurdzan and Fry had begun schematic work before Ann's death, and the family chose to proceed in her memory. The architects and construction team worked through steep ground, ponds and existing farmland to create the completed course. That story remains part of the course's identity, because Annbriar is not simply named after Ann; the layout exists as a family project that turned personal loss into a lasting piece of southern Illinois golf.

Did You Know? Annbriar's name honors Ann Nobbe, whose family continued the project after her death. The course's 14th fairway also became locally known for an 18-foot sinkhole that appeared in 2013, an unusual reminder that the landscape is still capable of changing the golf.
