Anglesey Golf Club

Overview: Anglesey Golf Club is an 18-hole links at Rhosneigr on the western side of the island, shaped from heathland, sand dunes, marsh and firm coastal turf. The club describes it as the only true links on Anglesey, and the sandy soil helps it remain playable throughout the year. The course looks open from many tees, but the wind, rough, reeds, ditches and river crossings continually change the safest line. The backdrop reaches toward Snowdonia and the Llŷn Peninsula, while the finish builds toward the river and the clubhouse. From the information in the club's course tour, the round includes blind holes, small target greens and several points where shorter and straighter is more useful than raw length. It is a friendly-looking course with enough natural uncertainty to keep every round demanding.

History: Anglesey Golf Club was formed in 1914 when local organisers rented common land and employed Harold Horsfall Hilton to create an eighteen-hole links. Hilton was an accomplished amateur, a two-time Open champion and the 1911 U.S. Amateur champion. In 1920 Dr Frank Stableford joined the club, later developing the scoring system that bears his name. The club celebrated its centenary in 2014 and has kept the course open to visitors across the year. Its history also includes local amateur champions and a strong connection with the Rhosneigr community.

Did You Know? The 18th is Anglesey's signature hole because the river must be crossed twice before the ball reaches the green. That finish turns the last hole into a genuine risk-and-reward decision: a safe line can protect the round, but the direct route offers the chance to finish with a memorable par.
