Anfi Tauro Golf

Overview: Anfi Tauro Golf is an 18-hole desert course set in a dramatic valley on Gran Canaria's southwest coast. The design team of von Hagge, Smelek and Baril used the steep volcanic surroundings as a frame for broad fairways, sculpted landforms, water features and bold greens. The scale is resort-like, but the holes still ask for decisions: a wide landing area may invite power, while the safest approach depends on the slope and the position of the next hazard. The contrast between dry mountain sides and carefully maintained playing surfaces gives the course its visual identity. It is a layout for players who enjoy strong scenery but also want the landform to influence the way the round is played.

History: Anfi Tauro Golf opened in 2006 as part of a large resort development in the Tauro valley. The course occupies more than 650,000 square metres and was designed as the central golf experience of the destination, with a separate par-three facility complementing the championship routing. From the beginning, the project combined substantial earth shaping with the existing volcanic landscape. That balance is why the course has kept a clear sense of place even as the surrounding resort has expanded.

Did You Know? The course's most distinctive contrast is between the dry volcanic mountains and the lush green corridors around the holes.
