Ancient Saltern Golf Club

Overview: Ancient Saltern Golf Club sits beside the salt fields and mangrove wetlands of Yangpu in western Hainan. The 18-hole, par-72 links-style course was designed by Australian Graham Marsh and is listed at 7,572 yards by the current course reference used here. Nine fairways run close to the coast, so wind, exposed ground and the relationship between the salt landscape and the playing corridors are central to the experience.

History: The course opened in August 2011 as the first golf course in Danzhou's western area. Hainan Daily reported the opening invitation event and described a 2,000-mu project beside Xinying Bay, with an 18-hole course, water practice area and business clubhouse. It later became associated with the Hainan Open, and the DP World Tour identifies Danzhou Ancient Saltern as the course for the 2023 event.

Did You Know? The course is built beside a living cultural landscape rather than an invented theme. Ancient salt-making fields and mangrove wetlands surround the property, and the opening report connected the course with both. The open coastal ground and salt heritage shape the visual and playing identity.
