Overview: The O’Connor Jnr Course at Amendoeira is the greener companion to the resort’s Faldo layout, with a par-72 routing spread across a fertile valley near Alcantarilha. Christy O’Connor Jnr used lakes, streams, palms, and broad corridors to create a parkland course that looks generous but repeatedly asks for a precise line into the green. Flatter terrain gives the round a different rhythm from the rocky Faldo course, while water makes risk and reward a constant part of club selection. It is a varied resort test with a strong southern-European landscape identity.
History: The course opened in 2008 as one of Amendoeira’s two championship layouts, alongside the Faldo Course. Its design is associated with Christy O’Connor Jnr, whose playing experience informed a course offering more width and visible water than its neighbor. The two courses were developed as contrasts within one resort, so the O’Connor course’s parkland character is part of the original design brief.
Did You Know? Orange groves and water act as recurring visual anchors, giving several holes an oasis-like appearance within the Algarve’s dry climate. A fairway may look open until a lake, grove, or stream closes the preferred angle. The memorable moments come from these layered choices rather than from a single dramatic elevation change.
