Alhaurin Golf

Overview: Alhaurín Golf is an 18-hole par-72 course in the hills above the Costa del Sol, between Alhaurín el Grande and the Mediterranean. The federation scorecard lists 6,045 metres from the white tees, approximately 6,611 yards, and credits Severiano Ballesteros with the design. The layout is defined by elevation changes, sloping lies and broad views toward the Sierra de Mijas and the sea. It is not a flat resort circuit: club selection and stance control matter as much as distance, and the changing ground gives the round a distinctly mountainous character.

History: The main course opened in 1993 as part of Alhaurín Golf Hotel and Resort. Ballesteros’s 18-hole layout was built alongside a separate nine-hole par-three course, so the property has always offered both a full championship-style round and a shorter practice option. The resort has remained part of the inland Costa del Sol golf market, close enough to Fuengirola and Málaga to work as a travel course while retaining a more rural setting than the coastal developments.

Did You Know? The white-tee card divides the course into two par-36 nines, but the par mix is unusually varied: the layout contains five par threes, eight par fours and five par fives. That rhythm keeps the course from becoming a simple test of long driving. The federation scorecard shows the finishing hole as a 521-metre par five, while several shorter par threes require precise distance control on sloping terrain, a useful summary of the Ballesteros approach to the site.
