Ala Wai Golf Course

Overview: Ala Wai is a municipal parkland course beside Waikiki, with a flat routing shaped by the Ala Wai Canal, city streets and the Koʻolau range. The course is a practical Honolulu layout where trade winds and relatively open landing areas are part of the examination. It is a walking-friendly city course in character, with the urban setting always visible around the fairways.

History: The course opened in 1931 and is associated with architect Donald MacKay. The routing belongs to Honolulu’s city-run course network, which also includes Pali, Ted Makalena, Ewa Villages and West Loch. The city has continued to maintain and improve the surrounding access and parking infrastructure as part of the park facility.

Did You Know? Ala Wai occupies land at the edge of Waikiki that was created and shaped through major canal and drainage works. Its golf setting is therefore closely tied to the same engineered landscape that made the surrounding resort district possible.
