Adena Golf and Country Club

Overview: Adena Golf and Country Club was an 18-hole private course in Ocala built around old limestone quarries, spring-fed water and the rolling terrain of central Florida. The historical course card is reported at par 72 and 6,937 yards from the back tees. Instead of hiding the quarry workings, the design used rock faces, lakes and dramatic changes in elevation as the main visual and strategic language. The course formed part of a much larger equestrian estate with polo, stables and horse-country facilities.

History: Frank Stronach acquired the broader Ocala property in 2008, and the golf course opened in 2015 after a long development period. Established course sources credit Doug Carrick with the design. The original golf club closed in July 2018, while more recent Club Adena material presents a renewed private 18-hole estate concept. This profile distinguishes the historically ranked Adena course from any future redevelopment rather than claiming uninterrupted current play.

Did You Know? The quarries were not a decorative afterthought. Many of the holes were routed around, over or through former mining pits, producing elevation changes that are highly unusual in Florida. The course’s most memorable features therefore came from reusing the industrial history of the site as golf architecture.
