Achasta Golf Course

Overview: Achasta Golf Course is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature design in Dahlonega, Georgia, set among the foothills of North Georgia and the Chestatee River. The semi-private course plays to par 72 and 6,967 yards from the gold tees listed on the current course page. Nicklaus routed the holes through wooded ridges and river corridors, using the water, elevation changes and surrounding hardwoods to give the course a distinctly mountainous identity. The layout is not simply a ridge-top course: the Chestatee becomes a recurring part of the back-nine experience, and the changing ground encourages players to consider both the carry and the next angle of play. Bermuda greens, tree-lined fairways and the river setting combine to make the course feel connected to its landscape rather than imposed on it.

History: Nicklaus Design lists Achasta as open in 2000. It was developed as the golf centerpiece of a private community and became the first course created through a partnership between ClubCorp and Nicklaus Design. The routing has retained its original signature identity, with the Chestatee River and the surrounding mountain land remaining the course’s most important architectural assets. Achasta’s setting near Dahlonega also places it in a region with a much older local history, including the Georgia gold rush, but the course itself is a late-20th-century interpretation of the foothills rather than a historic parkland layout.

Did You Know? The Chestatee River is crossed seven times by the course. Nicklaus Design also describes Achasta as one of the few signature Nicklaus courses in the North Georgia mountains, giving the routing a particularly strong geographic identity within the wider portfolio.
