Overview: A. C. Read Golf Course's Bayou/Bayview routing is an 18-hole combination on Naval Air Station Pensacola beside Bayou Grande. The Bayou nine threads between two salt-water bayous, while Bayview looks toward Bayou Grande and Pensacola Bay; live oaks and naval pines keep the course tied to the coastal military landscape.
History: The first nine holes opened on May 3, 1942, and the second nine followed four months later as a recreation course for NAS Pensacola personnel. The course took A.C. Read's name in 1954. William Amick added and reshaped holes in 1962, the complex became three distinct nines in the early 1990s, and Jerry Pate's team renovated it in 2003.
Did You Know? The original fairways were also intended to function as a firebreak near Sherman Field, giving the early course a practical aviation role as well as a golfing one.
