3 Creek Ranch Golf Course

Overview: 3 Creek Ranch Golf Course is a private Rees Jones design in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, shaped around a broad ranch landscape beneath the Teton Range. The 18-hole layout moves through native grasses, wetlands, cottonwood stands, lakes and the natural tributaries that give the property its name. Its mountain setting is dramatic, but the golf is not simply about scenery: changing stances, high-altitude air, wind and the relationship between fairways and preserved natural areas demand thoughtful club selection. Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead used the existing landform rather than imposing a heavily engineered resort aesthetic, creating a course that alternates between open ranch views and more intimate corridors.

History: The property has a working-ranch story that reaches well beyond the golf course. The Wilson and Simpson families produced hay here, while the land also contained a Civilian Conservation Corps camp and a federal fish hatchery. Later owners maintained cattle and used the Lower Ranch as a private fly-fishing retreat. In 2002 the Oliver family sold the Lower Ranch, beginning its transformation into the 3 Creek Ranch Club and residential conservation community. The golf course followed as the centerpiece of that early-2000s redevelopment. The club's current page describes recognition from its opening period in 2004, while the Rees Jones project record lists the original design as 2005; the structured year follows the latter course-design record.

Did You Know? More than 400 acres of the course are protected in a conservation easement, according to the club. The property also contains three named waterways, and the club describes as many as six tee positions on each hole, allowing the same natural setting to play very differently from one set of markers to another.
